Restart policy

JFS extends a number of internal Jira components to provide a required level of security. This could be done properly during Jira start-up only. That is why we ask you to be prepared to follow these rules:

  • You must restart your Jira immediately in case of any changes made to JFS state via UPM (aka 'Manage apps'). This includes installing, enabling, disabling, upgrading, uninstalling etc. of JFS.

  • You also must restart Jira immediately if you update UPM addon. Updating UPM causes reloading (i.e. disabling then re-enabling) of all user-installed apps, including JFS, which in turn requires Jira restart.

Additionally a notification flag will be shown to all Jira administartors if restart is required.

Important changes

Single app JAR and runtime addon

We now ship a single app JAR for all supported Jira versions.

Upon Jira restart, the app will automatically install an additional runtime addon for your specific Jira version. This addon should neither be disabled, nor uninstalled manually unless you are going to remove JFS completely.

Both the app and the runtime addon in the UPM app list

Patching

Patching is not required anymore.

If you are upgrading from v1.4, leave the existing patch as it is.

Configuration storage

JFS configuration has been moved to the Jira database. In case of upgrading your existing v1.4 configuration will be imported, including all settings and field security schemes.

All changes made to the JFS configuration after upgrading to v2.0 will not be reflected in the legacy XML files. If you decide to downgrade to v1.4 later, any changes made to JFS configuration after upgrading to v2.0 will be lost.

Supported Jira versions

JFS 2.0 supports Jira 8.0 and up. Jira 7.x is not supported.

Licensing

With v2.0 we begin transition to the Atlassian Marketplace licensing. During the transition period both legacy licenses and Marketplace licenses will be supported. Current license status could be checked at the JFS Licensing page.

Jira Data Center

Although for a long time we have maintained compatibility of JFS app with Jira DC, now we are going to launch an official Data Center approved version of the app. After that Data Center customers will be required to purchase a Data Center app license upon their next renewal.

How to install

  1. Install the app JAR using UPM ('Manage apps' page)

  2. Restart your Jira

Highlights

  1. In the clustered environment with multiple nodes you may restart nodes one by one with total zero downtime. All nodes must be restarted. Field security routines will be enabled on each node only upon its restart.
